Membership Information
The Aurora Police Retired Officers Association is a group of retired employees from the Aurora, Colorado Police Department,
both Commissioned Civil Service and Career Service alike. The purpose of this Association is to secure closer
personal relationships among the retired members of the Aurora Police Department, to protect and improve member benefits,
promote social activities, and other such activities as may be deemed worthy in the interest of the Association.

Current member dues are payable each year by January 31st.

There are currently five (5) classes of Membership:
|
CHARTER MEMBERSHIP
Charter Membership is a form of membership conferred to all members who joined the association
by December 31, 2016.
Charter members, being active members, shall be required to pay dues and shall be entitled to
all rights and privileges to include participation in all social activities, voting privileges,
serving on committees, and serving on the Governing Board.

ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP
Active Membership is a form of membership available to retired police officers of the
Aurora Police Department; police officers who left the Aurora Police Department in good
standing after successful completion of the Aurora Police Academy and the probationary
period but before reaching full retirement status; and former or retired Career Service
employees who spent at least five (5) years with the Aurora Police Department and left
in good standing.
Active members shall be required to pay dues and shall be entitled to all rights and privileges to include
participation in all social activities, voting privileges, serving on committees, nominating prospective board
members, and serving on the Governing Board.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
Associate Membership is a form of membership available to active police officers currently
employed by the Aurora Police Department; active Career Service employees currently working
for the Aurora Police Department; current City of Aurora employees in ancillary services to
include the Aurora Public Safety Communications Department, the Aurora Municipal Detention
Center, and marshals of the Aurora Municipal Court, or former ancillary service employees
with at least five (5) years of service; peace officers retired from any other law enforcement
agency; peace officers who left another law enforcement agency after five (5) years of service
but before reaching full retirement status; retired employees of other law enforcement agencies
with at least five (5) years of ancillary service; and widows and widowers of all deceased Charter,
Active, Associate, and Life members.
All applicants must be currently or previously employed in good standing and may be asked
to provide an employment history.
Associate members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of active members
except the right to vote, hold office, or nominate applicants for Governing Board
service.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP
Life Membership is a form of membership available to all Active and Charter members. To
become a Life Member, the eligible member must make a payment or payments within a
twelve (12) month period of time, equal to the payment of ten (10) years dues. Once a
designation of Life Member is conferred by the board to the member, no additional dues
shall ever be charged to that member.
Life members, being Active and/or Charter members, shall be entitled to all rights and
privileges to include participation in all social activities, voting privileges, serving
on committees, nominating prospective board members, and serving on the Governing Board.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
Honorary Membership is a form of membership that may be conferred on a person not
eligible for any other form of membership, and at the Governing Board's discretion,
for exemplary accomplishments or great achievements that advance the cause of the law
enforcement community, or this association; or who has made sufficient sacrifice as to
be commendable; or who has contributed of their time and effort in an exemplary
manner and has, by their high moral actions and standards, brought honor upon
themself, the law enforcement community, the Aurora Police Department, or this
association.
Honorary members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of active members
except the right to vote, hold office, or nominate applicants for Governing Board
service.

HONORARY MEMBERS |
Glenn Spies
September 2016
In 1981, Glenn was shot and seriously wounded as he attempted to assist Ofc. Debra Sue Corr while she
struggled to arrest a suspect who ultimately killed Ofc. Corr. APROA recognizes Glenn's sacrifice
and is proud to offer him our first Honorary Membership.
